Last Week, PLHC Faculty Director Dr. Jared Orsi published an article in The Conversation discussing Quitobaquito, an oasis in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. As Dr. Orsi points out, the oasis’s past is rich with connection. Over the course of its long human history, the oasis attracted a variety of different land users, each of which though about the land and its resources differently. At Organ Pipe National Monument people competed, cooperated, and cross-pollinated. As Orsi argues, that history is “incompatible” with a wall.
A place with a rich historical and ecological past, Quitobaquito will be impacted by the Trump Administration’s planned border wall. Head over to our blog to read the full article, or view the original piece in The Conversation by clicking here.
