Intern with Us!
The Public Lands History Center conducts research and presents public programming related to America’s public lands at the local, state, and national level. Interns engage in all levels of our work and learn career skills in a professional, supportive environment.
The PLHC hosts one to two undergraduate internships each semester. Interns select a two credit (80 hours) or three credit (120 hours) option. We pay a token honorarium of $50 per credit hour.
Interns work at the center’s offices in the Tiley House under the supervision of Program Manager, Ariel Schnee. PLHC Director, Dr. Jared Orsi, serves as the internship faculty advisor.
Intern with Us!
- Research and write one 800-1,000-word entry for the center’s blog.
- Receive training and skill-building opportunities, including working with clients and writing a federal resume
- Office tasks, as needed
Additional Options
Interns also participate in the intellectual life of the center, dependent on the intern’s interests and the center’s activities in a given semester. Interns may:
- Participate in planning and execution of public speaker events
- Meet informally with faculty, graduate students, and other undergrads connected with the center
- Shadow public history professionals
- Accompany PLHC researchers on field work to state and national parks and other locations
- Conduct research and other activities related to PLHC projects
- Get connected to summer employment and internship opportunities
- Sit in on phone calls and/or meetings with clients
- Conduct and/or transcribe oral histories
- Other activities as they come up—every intern and every semester is a little different.
